It’s the middle of winter in the foothills of Colorado and there is very little snow up on the mountain peaks.
Although some might be glad that we are having yet another warm spell, I do not share their delight in the extended warm weather. For one thing, I love to ski and the type of skiing that my husband and I prefer – skate skiing* – does not have the advantage of being able to depend on man-made snow. Another reason is that come spring, when the mountains are scheduled to release their accumulated snow-pack, unless we have A LOT MORE SNOW, there will not be much of it to melt.
And if we have an early, hot spring windy spell – which we often get – much of it will disappear into thin air and never reach the streams which feed the rivers which create wonderful high water conditions for us white-water boater-enthusiasts and also stretch far out onto to the plains to water the crops which farmers and city-dwellers alike rely on for sustenance and joy. Whew! See what goes on in my head when I look up and don’t see deep, endless drifts of snow in the Rocky Mountains in the middle of January? It’s just not right!
OK, So What Do I Care, You Ask?
So what does any of that have to do with anything else you are thinking about in your snug life-cocoon today? Possibly quite a bit. for one thing, you might be wondering if there will be great snow by mid-February or mid-March when you want to come enjoy it for yourself on your annual Colorado ski trip. Don’t worry, by then we’ll have snow.
But thinking along these lines led me to wonder about the inter-connectedness of all things and all beings. It reminded me of how all the things we do in our own small – or large – spheres of influence really do make a difference in the whole big picture. When was the last time you paused to consider this? This morning? That’s fantastic!!! Last week … that’s good too! Almost never? Hmmmm …. do you know where your food comes from?
The way we live and the way we work area closely related too. To know what is still here (on Earth) is tough enough. To truly know what was once here is impossible. Not knowing leave all of us at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to being able to really understand the full scope of what is possible today or in the future. Likewise, if you don’t have a clear picture of the total inventory of all the work and other things you have to do, how will you ever be fully aware of what you can’t do?
Let’s face it, we are all on overwhelm mode these days … just like Mother Earth.
If you are like me, you may be at a point right now where you are searching for a way to connect with the things that matter most in your life while you – as efficiently as possible – cope with and intelligently execute the multitude of daily and weekly responsibilities, projects, and commitments in your life. You’re wondering how in the world you can find a way to get back in touch with all your dreams so that you can realize them sooner rather than later – or, depending on your present circumstances, not at all.
I’ve got some ideas that I’m presently reading about and will be talking about in upcoming posts. If you’d like to follow along and benefit from all the research I’m doing on how to live and work more efficiently and effectively, then I hope you’ll come back often.
