After spending several days on the Green River in Utah  this week, I had planned  to write today about what it would be like to live in a state of non-stop inspiration – like Mother Nature and the River. But before I had a chance to begin, I received the following note from a friend and felt compelled to share it with you right away:

“…I just wanted to pass on that Chief Looking Horse of the Sioux has issued an international call to prayer for the solstice, June 21. He said it very beautifully, full article in the Bohemian which you can undoubtedly read online under an article called Great Spirit. But the important part is that we all pray an way we want, in our sacred place and manner for the re-balancing of the earth.  He says, “On June 21, shut off the electricity and let’s pray.  If we are going to survive we need spirit and compassion.  People without spirit are dangerous.  We are up against a lot of violence and hatred.”  He goes on and it is very beautiful. But before you click on the link above to read what the Chief has to say in his own words, please  consider this thought for a moment: Wouldn’t it be fantastic if every day, in every situation – no matter what – you and every person you connected with were ALL, every one of you … inspired?!

Yes, fantasy is probably the operative word here. I realize that. All the same, allowing your mind and spirit to roam free for even a short period of time opens up within you new opportunities for growth and change. The journey, even if taken infrequently, is well worth the price of the ticket. In a world where most of us spend so much – in time, energy, and substance – in pursuit of material success, an excursion into other possibilities of mind and heart can result in some wonderful surprises. Regardless of your spiritual beliefs, exercising your wild imagination from time to time can have profound benefits.

I’m not suggesting you surrender to fantasy or make-believe, on the contrary, I’m talking about stretching the limits of your rational mind to include more space for great ideas and creative solutions. So, as we approach the longest day of the year, when you have access to more sunlight than on any other day of the year, give yourself some time to paint a perfect scenario for yourself.

Ask yourself these questions and paint a picture in your mind, or on paper …

What does my inspired life look like?

How does it feel?

What does it sound like?

How do you think it would affect your mood, your energy, your day?

Asking these questions will lead you to wonder: how can you live a more inspired life every day? For an inspired life will guide you to a life of purpose and meaning … and give substance to your dreams in a way that money never will. These 6 Steps offer simple ways to open your heart to inspiration.

1. Open you window at night for some fresh air while you sleep. Pay attention to the sounds of Nature … they remind us of our connection to the Earth, to ourselves and to all sentient beings
2. Think of others first … This may sound like something our mothers and grand-mothers would say, but it’s true…if you think of others first, you will discover a sense of inner peace and joy. Use the Solstice Prayer Day (see above-mentioned article) to re-inspire your sense of carrying about the Earth and your fellow Earthlings.
   
3. Watch the sun and the moon… pay attention to the light … how long does it linger on the wall or across the grass…and where it is in the sky at various times throughout the day or night. Even in a city environment … have fun with it!
   
4. Be grateful. Remind yourself throughout the day. Take short gratitude breaks and notice how they affect your mood and your energy levels.
   
5. Spend time outside. Go for a walk, a run, a bike ride, play with the kids or the dog. Do something enjoyable, relaxing and nurturing for yourself … OUTSIDE. And remember to breathe!
   
6. Enjoy LIFE! Just stopping to allow yourself to appreciate your life is one of the most inspirational things you can do for yourself.
